LESSON 2: TRAVEL ENGLISH

Airport Adventure

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. But first... you have to survive the airport!"

The Journey Begins

Read the story and explore the highlighted airport terms.

Your trip starts the moment you walk into the terminal. The first stop is the check-in counter to drop off your suitcase and receive your boarding pass. The agent will ask for your passport and verify your visa if you are traveling internationally.

Next comes the most stressful part: security. You must place your carry-on bags and metal items in a bin. Once you are through, you might have some time to browse the duty-free shops before finding your gate. Listen carefully to announcements; you don't want to miss a boarding call or a notification that your flight is delayed!

On the plane, the flight attendant will help you get settled. Sometimes the runway is busy, causing a wait before takeoff. If the weather is bad, you might experience some turbulence. Upon arrival, you will head to immigration, then pick up your bags at baggage claim, and finally walk through customs to enter the country.
